Why Keep Learning

“I think it’s so important to keep learning and keep your brain active.”
~ Beverley Mitchell

Such a coincidence that WordPress.com’s latest topic is about going back to school.

I longed to see myself studying again to improve myself. I also feel excited of learning specific skills at my own pace and time.

Back in college, our professor asked us in one of my subjects to create a website as our project. Since we’re grouped as duo and to make things easier, I volunteered to do it for us two. And I used Microsoft FrontPage then.

I felt prouder of myself when our professor gave us the highest grade for that project. I remember I made an online clothing shop which I derived inspiration from popular online clothing shops then. I know basic HTML. What I did was to copy easy to understand HTML codes from a small Computer book.

Just thinking about how I made a website before made me wonder how I really did it! I could have been motivated so much since it was required in our class. It was only one subject but that made me revisit my old interest to pursue learning more about it!

And I believe it’s never too late to learn something that interests me!

Being Socially Modern

I believe I truly belong in this modern age!

I remember my grade school days when computers were still limited to school’s computer room and to those who can afford to have one. I was thinking if only I could own a personal computer, it would be easier for me to study doing an online research.

Web research was a required project for us in our computer subject back then. I even dread it when I had to go to a computer shop (which was several walks from our house). I found online research more complicated before compared to now. I’m glad we have Google now!

When I reached high school, I’m glad we started having our own computer at home. Most of our school projects also encouraged us to use internet for online research and to create presentations in Microsoft Powerpoint.

And then came Friendster which was a hit during my college days.  Since I’ve met several classmates in high school, it would be great to catch up with them through this most popular social network back then. I recall there were personal testimonials from close friends and classmates who visit your Friendster profile.

Soon I found my very first job in a Business Process Outsourcing company here in the Philippines. After several months of staying in that company, I received an invite from a colleague for a newcomer social network. And I was like why bother create another profile?!

It took me a while before finally joining one of the biggest social networks in the cyberspace now. That is Facebook!

I never thought I’d also dare to create a Facebook profile. That I’ll be eager to learning to use it without having to read a manual!  Kidding aside, this also led me to be temporarily addicted with Facebook games which became my pastime and favorite destressor.

And now we have Twitter which is one of my most favorite!  The first time I used it I felt at lost. I couldn’t understand what it is for.

But as I learned to explore using it I appreciated it even more. I got to learn using it by observing others how they use theirs.  I admit I get updates of latest news mostly from this site and I also learn from other people’s Twitter updates which is great!

Still there are other social media sites that have become popular to most people such as InstagramPinterest, and who would not forget Youtube!

Being socially active online seems to be a norm. Sometimes, it can get overwhelming but still they are great avenues for us to connect, not only to people who matter to us but also follow popular people whom we admire.

Changing your Perception of Beauty

I came across with this intriguing video shared on Facebook the other day. A friend even had her status about the video which made her cry so I watched it and even re-watched it for like a couple of times already.

I tried checking on Youtube and I was amazed since as of this writing, the 3 minute uploaded video already garnered 54 million views on Youtube!

Sometimes it’s also great to be reminded to appreciate and embrace more our natural beauty. And I believe nothing beats displaying our most beautiful smile!

Cheers and be inspired watching the video below:

Metamorphosis

Image representing Steve Jobs as depicted in C...

Time flies fast as they say.  As of this writing, it will only be a few hours til the calendar month changes again since it would be the first day of June!

The past few months have been like a metamorphosis for me as I also went through changes especially in improving my life perspectives. And I know there are still a lot more to learn about everything which I continuously appreciate especially with myself.

It was like I rediscovered my innermost potentials that I kept on recalling a particular past interest way back in college and my past professional accomplishments from my previous job which I found both personally fulfilling. And I realize those things also became my source of inspiration and motivation to do better in every aspect of my life this year.

Yesterday, I received an email from Jobstreet. I was intrigued so I read it since it mentioned about Steve Jobs in their recent featured article. It’s great to know more about a person I admire especially when I previously read about his advice to find what you love. After learning about it, I kept asking that to myself for like countless times until it went off my mind for quite some time. There were even instances that I questioned if it also applies to me but still I tried looking.

And it’s only recently that I started realizing what Steve Jobs meant. It became much clearer to me what I learned from him through the latest article I read entitled “Steve Jobs : You’ve Got to Find What You Love!

After reading a brief background about his life from the past, I reflected again on the events in his life that he went through. I realized that I could somehow relate on the parts where I also felt like a beginner again and when I recalled the past experiences which led me to a direction I want to fulfill in my life.

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”

Just Give Me a Reason

I felt guilty that I was not able to post daily in my WordPress blog before.  But early this year I resurrected my blogging interest sharing things I derive mostly from my past personal experiences, my own personal thoughts, and to WordPress.com’s Daily Prompt. There were even times when I also clicked the “Inspire Me” link (via posting New Post found top right of blog page) just to help me squeeze out my thoughts into blog writing.

inspire me

It’s nice to be prompted again with such a question whether I have fulfilled my goal of daily posting. Well I did last March 2013 where I managed to keep up despite staying up late. Blog writing is definitely a challenge more so posting daily. A couple of times I kept asking myself why I still blog. It’s no joke to write about a topic of interest even when I’m prompted to answer a question. There are times that I’m not comfortable sharing it or I find myself having difficulty translating my thoughts into written words.

to blog or not to blog

But being able to come up with a great post is something fulfilling on my part as well. It just feels great to have successfully put into writing what I have in mind. And then I will realize that I have already written not only sentences but a couple of paragraphs much to my surprise and delight!

I once read an article that writing daily is good since it helps one to be reflective on what has happened in his/her daily life. What’s even more pleasing is to be able to read previous posts realizing I wrote something I never thought I have something to share and even inspire.

Music Wednesday – Heart Attack!

Teen singer Demi Lovato performing

Just recently updated myself with the latest popular songs being played in a music video channel in the Philippines called MYX! When I switched to this channel last weekend, I was welcomed with its current week top 20 international songs.

I waited until it reached the current #1 music video which is ‘Heart Attack’ sang by one of my favorite international singers Demi Lovato! I like the tone of her voice and the way she sings especially when she reaches the high notes.

And then while searching the song Heart Attack on Youtube, I also saw a version of this song which I also immediately enjoyed listening to.
